The Director

Ms Aminata Shamit Koroma has been the Director of Food & Nutrition directorate since 2013. She has been working with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation for over twenty years where she served as Programme Manager, in this directorate, for three years. Aminata is a nutritionist by profession with over twenty years working in the field—in both developed and developing countries.

Key among her roles is to direct and advise the ministry and relevant development partners on budgeting and policy issues related to food and nutrition. She provides technical and management support for the implementation of programmes and initiatives that promote healthy nutrition in the Ministry.

Education & Training

Ms Koroma holds Masters and Bachelor’s degrees in Nutrition and Home Economics, respectively. She also holds professional certificates in:

  • Infant and Young Child Feeding
  • Breastfeeding Practices and Policy
  • Breastfeeding Management and Promotion
  • Healthcare in Developing Countries
  • Refugee Emergency and Disaster and Disaster Management

Aminata was a member of the 6 month Global Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Transitional Stewardship Team (TST) and is the SUN National Technical Focal Point.

Goal

Contribute to the improved health, social and economic wellbeing of all the people in Sierra Leone, especially women, children and other nutritionally vulnerable groups

Key Objective

Improve the current nutritional status of the population, especially infants and young children, pregnant and lactating women and other vulnerable groups in Sierra Leone
